Amy Weldon Book Launch! THE HANDS-ON LIFE
Dragonfly Books is thrilled to launch Decorah author Amy Weldon with the release of her debut book The Hands-On Life: How to Wake Yourself Up and Save the World. A powerful treatise and a call to action, The Hands-On Life is an intelligent guide to creating mindfulness in the digital age.
Amy Weldon, a passionate teacher and writer, will read at Dragonfly Books on Monday, March 12 at 7:00 pm. Join us for this special opportunity to hear Amy’s stories first hand and celebrate the release of The Hands-On Life (Wipf & Stock 2018). Including special guest Rachel Faldet, we’ll commemorate Amy’s book release with wine, refreshments, and friends. Everyone is welcome to join Dragonfly Books as we kick off Amy’s book release.
Originally from Alabama, Amy Weldon earned her Ph.D in nineteenth-century British literature from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. Setting down roots in Iowa, Weldon has become an active figure in Decorah’s writing community. She is a Professor of English at Luther College, teaching British Romanticism, creative writing, Paideia, and contemporary literature, and has taught adult writing classes at ArtHaus.
Weldon’s essays have appeared in edited collections including Fracture: Essays, Poems, and Stories on Fracking in America (Ice Cube Press 2016), William Faulkner: Critical Perspectives (Salem Press 2013), and The Best Travel Writing 2012 (Solas Press). Her short fiction, creative nonfiction, and scholarly work appears in Orion, The Common, About Place, Midwestern Gothic, and The Hopper.
In The Hands-On Life Weldon addresses the uncertainty, stress, and helplessness for creating meaningful change in the world. Weldon describes how practicing life as an artist can help you wake yourself up and take back control of your attention, your money, your time, and the health of our society and our planet.
Everyone is invited to celebrate with Amy Weldon on Monday, March 12 at 7:00 pm at Dragonfly Books.
