M.G. Slind: IVY: A NOVEL

Tuesday, November 14, 2017 - 7:00pm

Date: Tuesday, November 14
Time: 7:00 pm
Location: Dragonfly Books
Cost: Free!

Everyone is invited to join Dragonfly Books for an event with local author Marvin Slind, and his new work of fiction Ivy: A Novel.  Marvin will be at Dragonfly Books on Tuesday, November 14 at 7 pm.  Books are available to be purchased now at Dragonfly Books and will be available the evening of the signing.

Marvin Slind’s new novel, Ivy, was recently published. Following the tradition of Kingsley Amis’s Lucky Jim, Richard Russo’s Straight Man, and Jane Smiley’s Moo, Ivy is a light-hearted academic satire that looks at many of the serious problems in academic life—in this case, at a small liberal arts college. In addition to writing, Marvin serves as a destination lecturer on cruise ships in Northern Europe.

Marvin Slind is Professor Emeritus of History. He taught in the Luther College History department from 2000 to 2013, focusing on Scandinavian and Modern European history. He also headed a January Term course called "From Mobile to Margaritaville: Human Geography in the Music and Fiction of Jimmy Buffett," in which students examined the musical repertoire and fiction of Jimmy Buffett as a focal point for studying world geography and the human interactions associated with it through the course of history.

Join Dragonfly Books and Marvin Slind on Tuesday, November 14 at 7 pm. If you find that you can't make it to the event but would still like to purchase a copy of Ivy: A Novel, just give Dragonfly Books a call at 563-382-4275. One of the Dragonfly Books staff will be glad to reserve a book and have it autographed for you.
