CANCELLED: Mindy Mejia: EVERYTHING YOU WANT ME TO BE
DUE TO WEATHER CONCERNS AND THE AUTHOR'S SAFE TRAVELS, DRAGONFLY BOOKS HAS CANCELLED OUR EVENT WITH MINDY MEJIA ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24. WE PLAN TO RESCHEDULE THE EVENT FOR A LATER DATE.
Minnesota author Mindy Mejia joins Dragonfly Books to talk about her new book Everything You Want Me to Be on Friday, February 24th at 7:00 pm. Full of twists and turns, Everything You Want Me to Be reconstructs a year in the life of a dangerously mesmerizing young woman, during which a small town’s darkest secrets come to the forefront...and she inches closer and closer to her death.
In Everything You Want Me to Be (Atria Books 2017) high school senior Hattie Hoffman has spent her whole life playing many parts: the good student, the good daughter, the good citizen. But underneath those multiple facades is a young woman just yearning to escape her small Minnesota town and follow the bright lights to New York City. All that changes when she is found brutally stabbed to death.
Told from the points of view of Hattie herself, local sheriff Del Goodman, and the new-to-the-heartland English teacher whose marriage is slowly falling apart, Everything You Want Me to Be explores the lines between innocence and culpability and looks between the cracks of true identity and the masks we all wear.
Mindy Mejia received a BA from the University of Minnesota and an MFA from Hamline University. Apart from brief stops in Iowa City and Galway, she’s lived in the Twin Cities her entire life. Mejia’s is also the author of The Dragon Keeper (Ashland Creek Press 2012). The granddaughter of Minnesota farmers, she lives in the Twin Cities with her husband and two children.
