Liz Lee Heinecke: KITCHEN SCIENCE LAB FOR KIDS at the Oneota Co-op Kitchen Classroom
Dragonfly Books is delighted to announce the visit to Decorah of author and scientist Liz Lee Heinecke with her book Kitchen Science Lab for Kids: 52 Family Friendly Experiments from Around the House. Sponsored by Dragonfly Books, the Friends of the Decorah Public Library, ArtHaus, and The Oneota Community Food Co-op, Liz will be at the Oneota Co-op Kitchen Classroom on Saturday, June 27th at 3:00 - 5:00 pm with kid-friendly hands-on experiments. Everyone is invited to bring the whole family to try some fun experiments, meet Liz, and get your book signed.
Kitchen Science Lab for Kids helps you whip up simple, inexpensive, and fun science experiments using everyday ingredients. Including step-by-step, easy-to-follow instructions, families can cook up some physics, chemistry, and biology in their own kitchens and back yards. Many of the experiments are safe enough for toddlers and exciting enough for older kids, so families can discover the joy of science together.
On June 27th from 3:00 - 5:00 pm Liz will have science stations set up at the Oneota Co-op Kitchen Classroom for families to dig into. Join us to try the experiments for yourself, meet Liz, and learn more about Kitchen Science Lab for Kids. Dragonfly Books will be on hand selling copies of Liz’s book.
Known to most as The Kitchen Pantry Scientist, Liz Heinecke is an avid blogger, NASA Earth Ambassador, Bacteriologist and former medical researcher. After working in molecular biology research for ten years and getting her master’s degree, she left the lab to kick off a new chapter in her life as a stay-at-home mom. Soon she found herself sharing her love of science with her three kids as they grew, journaling their science adventures on her KitchenPantryScientist website.
Liz’s desire to spread her enthusiasm for science to others soon led to a regular segment on her local NBC affiliate and the creation of an iPhone app, with the goal of making it simple for parents to do science with kids of all ages, and for kids to experiment safely on their own.
Liz graduated from Luther College in Decorah and received her master’s degree in bacteriology from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. She now lives in Edina, Minnesota.
